Held apart. Settled in full.

Qismet DCO exists to clear and settle the markets, and to keep what participants commit separate from everything else. That part is not negotiable.

What a participant deposits is the participant's. It is accounted for separately from the money that runs the business, and it is not available to the business.

01The premise

A market is only as good as the promise behind the trade.

A price is a promise. Something has to stand behind it.

When two participants take opposite sides of a claim, each is relying on the other being made good at the end. The clearing house is what makes that reliance reasonable. It stands between the two sides, holds what has been committed, and settles the result whatever happens to either party in the meantime.

Everything else Qismet DCO does follows from that one job.

02The lifecycle

Deposit, trade, settle, withdraw. Clearing owns the ends and the middle.

Four stages. Three of them are ours.

A participant's money moves through four stages. The trade itself happens on the market. The clearing house is what holds the money before it, settles the result after it, and returns it on the way out.

Stage 01

Deposit

Funds arrive and are recorded as the participant's, in an account kept apart from the business.

Stage 02

Trade

The order is matched on the market. Positions open against other participants.

Stage 03

Settle

The contract resolves. Value moves from one side to the other and the result is final.

Stage 04

Withdraw

What is owed leaves, checked against the ledger before it goes anywhere.

03Priorities

Where the trade offs land, stated in advance.

When two good things conflict, this is the order.

Every clearing house makes these choices. Most of them do not say so out loud. Here is where Qismet DCO comes down, before anyone has to ask.

Certainty over speed

A settlement that lands a little later and stays settled is worth more than one that clears instantly and might be revisited. We would rather be slower at the end of a trade than uncertain about it.

Separation over convenience

Keeping participant money genuinely apart from the money that runs the business costs operational effort every day. It is not the cheap way to build this, and it is not negotiable.

The record over recollection

What is owed, to whom, and what is actually held is a matter of record, not of anyone's account of events. If the record and the belief disagree, the record is what we act on.

04Non negotiable

Three commitments the design is built around.

What safeguarding actually means here.

Separation

The participant's money is the participant's.

Participant funds are accounted for apart from the money that runs the business, and are not a source of working capital for it.

  • Held in a separate account
  • Not available to the business
  • Attributed to the participant

Finality

Settled means settled.

Once a contract resolves and value moves, the result stands. Certainty at the end of a trade matters more than speed getting there.

  • Resolution against a stated source
  • No retroactive adjustment
  • Outcome record retained

Reconciliation

One record, checked against reality.

A single authoritative account of what is owed and to whom, measured against what is actually held rather than what the system believes.

  • One authoritative ledger
  • Owed compared to held
  • Differences investigated, not netted

Qismet DCO

Safeguarding is not a feature. It is the job.
